Words for my friends in Ag who face the joy and challenges that come each spring.
Their dreams were not a promise
They had no guarantee
Blood, sweat, and tears added hope
Their hearts and souls admired by me
They took hold of the frontier
Stared down trouble and defeat
From their knees they conquered
Heads down, offering prayers so sweet
Now here we are, some 140 years later
Our challenges remain the same
Some ask, do you have what it takes? Can you win this game?
I stand on the shoulders of giants, I say
Not losing sight of the goals set
We will honor all those before us
A duty we’re called to, there is no reason to fret
For its in OUR blood too, and in our sweat and tears
Our legacy we’d like to leave, the future stretched out in years
